In partnership with the Chinese Cultural Centre (COCCC), Kitchener Waterloo Taiwanese Canadian association (KWTCA) and the First Step Mandarin School enjoy the day and take part in our Chinese New Year celebration. Members of this cultural community will share their traditions of celebrating this colourful festival.

Activities included with regular admission or membership.

Activity Lineup

The following events run from 1 to 4 p.m.

1 p.m. Chinese Fashion Show – Explore fashion from the Qin to the Ming Dynasty in the Christie theatre. Don’t miss a chance to see these beautiful garments in person. Great for all ages.

1:30 p.m. Chinese Calligraphy Lessons – Try your hand at Chinese calligraphy and learn a few words along the way. New words will be started every hour, so join us for a few new phrases. Best for ages 7 and up.

2 p.m. Chinese 101 – Join us and discover the Chinese language and culture with Peter Chieh whose family has lived in the Region for 50 years. He will lead a discussion about the lunar New Year as well. Great for all ages.

2:30 p.m. Dragon Dance – Feel the full effect of Chinese New Year as we host the Dragon Dancers in the Grand Foyer. Great for all ages.

2:30 p.m. Chinese Calligraphy Lessons – Try your hand at Chinese calligraphy and learn a few words along the way. New words will be started every hour, so join us for a few new phrases. Best for ages 7 and up.

3 p.m. Zodiac Animals  101 – Join us to learn about Chinese New Year traditions and the famous Zodiac animals. Find out what your animal says about you. Great for all ages.

3:30 p.m. New Year’s Feasts – Join the Kitchener Waterloo Taiwanese Canadian association to find out more about the tasty treats on the table at Chinese New Year feasts. Great for all ages.

Throughout the day

  • We will have crafts in the Grand Foyer.
