Celebrate family day at Schneider Haus! Visit our current exhibit, Miijim to learn about Traditional Anishinaabe Foodways. Meet and greet with Scott Norton and his animal puppets to learn more about Indigenous culture from 12 pm until 2 pm, or join Scott at 2 pm sharp for a puppet show about the Anishinabek creation story! Afterwards taste test and create food alongside talented Chef Destiny Moser, the heart of Cedar Spoon Indigenous Catering, who will be demonstrating how to make Three Sisters soup and Wild Rice salad. All this included in the price of admission! We can’t wait to celebrate family day with you!

About Scott Norton

Scott Norton is an Anishinabbe man residing in the Waterloo region. He is the facilitator for an Indigenous organization Ganawendan (take care) that focuses on cultural sensitivity training.  He also facilitates these workshops for different schools throughout the region. These animal puppets and other traditional dolls, are incorporated in the workshops and used to help the younger children understand the teachings and language of the Anishinaabe peoples. 

About Chef Destiny 

Hello & Aanii, my name is Chef Destiny. I am the owner and head chef of a personal chef business called FoodZen as well as the founder and executive chef of Cedar Spoon, an Indigenous catering company. I’m 50% Indigenous, part of the Ojibway tribe from Rainy River, Ontario. My mom was part of the sixties scoop, she was taken from her community when she was 4 years old to live in foster care. When she was 6, she was adopted by a family here in Waterloo Region. For many years we couldn’t celebrate our culture because we didn’t know what to celebrate. My grandmothers taught me how to cook at a very young age, and I could always feel the love in their food. Food has become my path to reconciliation and a way for me to heal, show my emotions and passion. Food is holistic, it’s medicine. One of the best places to listen and learn, is to break bread together and I’m excited to do that with you! Thank you, Miigwetch.
