What better way to spend Family Day weekend than to bring your family to explore our galleries and enjoy many engaging family activities throughout this long weekend.

Saturday - In appreciation of Black History Month, explore our newest exhibit Mandela- Struggle for Freedom. Mandela fought for a better South Africa. What do you think would help create a better Canada? Join us to make a poster for the change you want to see in the world and so much more!

12 p.m. Poster Making - Posters can be a great way to spread information and get people involved! Join us to make your very own poster. This activity is great for ages 4 and up. 

1 p.m. Stories on the Big Screen - Join us in the Christie Theatre to explore Nelson Mandela’s story on the big screen as well as other stories in celebration of Black History Month. 

2 p.m. Family Tour of Mandela Exhibit – Join us for a guided tour geared towards younger audiences as we explore Mandela: The Struggle for Freedom.

3 p.m. Stories on the Big Screen - Join us in the Christie Theatre to explore Nelson Mandela’s story on the big screen as well as other stories in celebration of Black History Month. 

4 p.m. Poster Making - Posters can be a great way to spread information and get people involved! Join us to make your very own poster. This activity is great for ages 4 and up. 

Sunday - Retro Games Day - Play some old school family games like Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots from the '60s or participate in vintage Nintendo video games on a movie theatre screen! This day is sure to excite all game enthusiasts! 

  • Classic Nintendo games on the big screen in the Christie Theatre
  • Play old school family games like Rock Em’ Sock Em’ Robots from the ‘60s and many more!
  • Test your knowledge to see if you can guess when selected retro snacks came to be
  • Try on some of our retro style costumes for a great family photo
  • Explore old-school TV shows in our scavenger hunt

In support of local 2SLGBTQIA+ community, join us to create some tie-died art, as well as explore the Rainbow Historical Project.

1 p.m. and 3 p.m Including a Rainbow - In support of local 2SLGBTQIA+ community, come to discover all the amazing colours of the pride flags and create your very own wearable art with all the colours of the rainbow or take the time to design your own personal flag. This activity is great for all ages.

Also make sure to explore the Rainbow Historical Project presented by SPECTRUM 

 

Monday - Make us part of your family this Family Day Monday as we explore STEAM. Discover science, technology and engage with engineering. Be creative in the arts and use your math problem solving skills this long weekend with these fun activities.

10 a.m. Transforming Math - Join us to discover the beauty of math by examining quilts. Best for ages 6 and up. 

11 a.m. Mars Rover - Try your hand at becoming a space engineer and test your communication skills by guiding someone through our Mars Rover obstacle course. Great for all ages. 

12 p.m. Amazing Adaptations - Join us in the Christie Theatre to explore the amazing world of animal adaptations. Test your knowledge with our trivia challenge after this presentation. Best for ages 6 and up.

1 p.m. Shocking Science - Discover the shocking science behind static electricity. Best for ages 4 and up.

2 p.m. Transforming Math - Join us to discover the beauty of math by examining quilts. Best for ages 6 and up.
